Why Is My AC Running But Not Cooling Properly?

An AC that runs but doesn’t cool usually has restricted airflow, low refrigerant, or a heat-transfer problem at the outdoor unit. The most common cause is a clogged air filter that chokes airflow across the indoor coil.

In our day-to-day work around Pierceton, we often find the fix starts with restoring clean airflow before chasing complex parts.

  • Replace or clean the return air filter to restore airflow.
  • Gently clear leaves and dirt from the outdoor condenser coil so it can dump heat.
  • If the system runs long with little cooling, schedule a refrigerant level and coil inspection.
  • Consider a precision AC tune-up to inspect, clean, and optimize performance.

Turn power off at the thermostat before cleaning the outdoor unit, and book a diagnostic if cooling doesn’t return.
